A needle is better than a sword - from 'Notes' - 31 August 2008

"A needle is better than a sword." - BB 31.8.2008

I think one should work on using a needle rather than the sword. The weapon, especially if double-edged, as a zulfikar, is dangerous. It hurts, cuts, slices, pierces and bleeds. A needle, on the contrary, stitches up. Of course, a needle causes many small holes, and may be painful. But, if it pulls together a strong thread, it can stitch up the divide.

A sword cannot at any moment, put things back together. It is best when left inside its sheath. Let it hang from a bold spot. Let it be seen, or better still, let it stay hidden. But, keep a needle ready. Use it when the other person has used the sword. Use it to poke holes along the ragged tear. Use it to pull the two parts together and use it only with a strong thread. Close up all that was behind. A needle only moves ahead. Do not make it go through the same holes twice. Do not use the sword. Understand that a needle's stitch keeps it together.

The key to inner transformation - by Ashleyy K. S. in Asian Age

  • We have a sense of identity or ego-self.
  • We go towards activities that we know we can accomplish and stay away from those where we might fail.
  • The subconscious becomes the most powerful influence in our lives.
  • We become creatures of habit.
  • Thinking the same, from day to day, being the same, everyday. Until... one day, we wake up and say, "Hey, I would like to change the way I feel about this." - And that's all that's necessary. That awareness alone can be the beginning of a new and conscious habit.
  • The brain learns best from self reflection.
  • If we wish... meaningful change needs to come from the side.
  • Positive steps lead to positive results.

A needle or a sword? What should be my choice? It's not an actual dilemma. It's a choice by choice, actually to create a dilemma. Should I use a sword? Certainly, not. That much is clear. So, obvious anger is out. Can I control myself? Let us examine if I can control my anger on a sunday-to-sunday basis. I will not get angry this week at home or office.

Second: Do I use a needle? I will use a needle only if and when required. If there is a gash or tear or a wound. Let Ganesh Chaturthi be the test case. Let me see if my wife will make amends. Let me see if she will call my father to conduct the Ganesh Chaturthi puja at my house or not. If she does not, because of her nymphomaniac attitude, on top of being schizophrenic, then, so be it. I could possibly go to meet my father and do the puja or later, join up with him. Let's watch... this week. No sword. No needle. Stay calm. Do not react. Do not get involved.
